Joining the Crew

10 Apr

It’s been forever since I’ve posted to this blog, but I couldn’t think of any better comeback then to announce we have a little one joining our humble crew of two this fall. Before I conceived this little lady, I dreamed of nights slaving away on baby art projects. Knitted toys and blankets, nursery art, pillows, etc. After all I have 10 months, right? Well the first trimester was a rude awakening on just how little energy, creativity, or motivation I would have to put towards the regular housework and cooking duties I have, much less art projects. This little announcement was a massive labor of love  on its own. But one thing I’m learning the closer to September I get is that the other stuff isn’t really that important. We prayed for this little one, and couldn’t be more excited or blessed to undertake this new journey God has granted us.

Annual Report

4 May

Our Annual Report is live. We created a fold out poster versus a booklet to help save money in the printing. The layout created a very cool printed version, but to make a digital version presented a few challenges. So we decided to create a little movie highlighting our impacts with the illustrations in the report to accompany the pdf version. This was the first time I’ve used flash in a very long time, so it’s not perfect but I think it turned out cute.

You can view the full report here.

DIY Lemon & Thyme Salt Scrub

21 Nov

Anyone else completely blown away that Thanksgiving is here? I mean seriously where did this year go? It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to start prepping and shopping for Christmas. If you’re like me, you need lots of little gifts for the folks at church and the office. I have a hard time isolating who to give something to and it gets sorta expensive really quick. So I like to have a little arsenal of quick, thoughtful, make it yourself gifts you can whip up on a chilly Saturday. You know, like this scrub.

I actually made this Salt Scrub back in the Summer for a friend who was getting married. I made me an extra little pot to leave in the guest bathroom. I actually use it on my face and let me tell you, it gives me the nicest glow and softest skin ever. I found the recipe here, and used their infused salt method.

  • 1 cup kosher salt (half kosher, half pink Himalayan)
  • 1/2 cup pure organic almond oil (half coconut, half olive oil instead)
  • the zest of one lemon
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, leaves stripped from the stems

I made a couple of little edits. I did half epsom salt and half pink Himalayan salt to give it a pretty color. Himalayan salt is a little pricey, and suppose to be good for you so I didn’t want to waste it all on a scrub. But it does give the scrub a little more color which bumps up the gift factor. If you’re making this for several folks, I would probably just use all kosher or sea salt to keep the price down.

Also, I didn’t have almond oil at the time so I did half olive and half coconut oil. I really like the way this mixture feels on my skin so I would keep it. Plus almond oil is also on the pricey side.

You could add a little bit of lemon essential oil to bump up the lemon factor, but citrus oils can make your skin sensitive to to sun so use your own judgement.

I bought a pretty glass jar for like a dollar at Walmart and these pretty wooden spoons from etsy. Made a little tag and tied it with some twine. Ta Da!

Also if you want a more Christmasy looking label you can download these. They’re super pretty. I used them last year to label my jam gifts.

Happy Halloween

31 Oct

Photo from Lab Partners

Is it really the end of the month already? October is by far my favorite month. So many wonderful things exist within it. Probably why time flew the past four weeks.

I’m still waiting for fall to hit the Gulf Coast. The nights are a little chilled and I’ve seen some red and orange speckles trying to shine out among the trees. But oh how I miss fall. I think that’s why my heart has grown so fond of mums and pumpkins scattered about my front porch. Forget the fact I leave the house with a tank top. Even got sunburned this past weekend. Gotta love the south.

Thankfully the weather has thrown us a bone for Halloween, tonight should be crisp and I got the night planned with butter beer and Hocus Pocus on the tube. Enjoy the day (and night) mate and watch out for spooks.

Bahamanniversary Cruise

20 Oct

It’s hard to believe 1 year has come and gone in the married life. Me and TJ opted out of a fancy honeymoon when we got married due to both of us just starting new jobs and money being a little tight right after the wedding. So we opted for a nice 1st Anniversary cruise to the Bahamas and Universal Studios.

We spent one day completely getting lost in Nassau. Instead of paying for an excursion we figured we could find our way about the island. It took us literally all day to find the Queen’s Staircase. Apparently the islanders don’t really know where that is either. We went down all sorts of back roads and alleys and discovered a lot of cool things along the way.

We finished the trip out by spending a day in Universal completely acting like children. Their Harry Potter World is super fabulous. If you’re a fan you must go.

Best part of the week: We finally thawed out that yummy piece of beautiful cake and consumed every last bite of it. Cheers!

First Fabric Design Ready To Go

14 Mar

I’m excited to announce that I have my first design pattern up for sale at It even made the home page for the recent trends (1st one in bottom row). I initially came across Spoonflower when I was looking for some specific prints for baby gifts. I googled Dr. Who fabric and came across several on this site. I spent some time exploring and just let me tell you they have so many adorable prints to choose from. I favorited so many things to purchase later when I have kids.

The exciting thing about Spoonflower is that you can upload your own designs. I seriously was not going to get involved with this but they have weekly contests and just so happened the upcoming one was gemstones. I knew Stone and Feather had to play their part so thus commended my first fabric pattern.

My purchase of it came in last night and the stones details show up beautifully. I was a little concerned that the painted details would lose some of their quality but they are strikingly vivid. Can’t wait to make something out of our signature illustrations. You can purchase here, even comes in wallpaper, decals, and gift wrap.
