Happy St. Patrick’s Day

17 Mar

I have to say for some odd reason today is one of my ALL TIME FAVE holidays. I adore it, I don’t know why. Possibly, because it is my mom’s birthday. I was always convinced as a child that automatically meant we were Irish. I mean she has red hair, born on St. Patrick’s day, and her last name was Tatum. That sounds Irish right? At least it did as a kid. Two years ago I got to live out a long time dream and spend the day at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, in Dublin, Ireland. I know right? How awesome. It was crazy! So many different cultures came from all over to celebrate and it was packed. I imagine it’s quite like the perfect party blend of Mardi Gras in New Orleans with the National importance of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The trip was part of a 10 day graphic design study abroad trip. I still can’t believe I got to go but I did and I’ve very thankful. I highly recommend the trip. The city was fascinating but the countryside was absolutely memorizing.

Here are some of my top fave photos. Enjoy!

Description of the photos:
1. Monastery at Glendalough. Some of the movie Braveheart was filmed at this location.
2-3. Cliffs of Moher
4. Hill of Tara and St. Patrick’s statue.
5. Architecture in Dublin
6. Brewley’s Bakery. So good!
7. Doors of Dublin and a really big leprechaun.
8. The Liffey Bridge at night in Dublin.
9. St. Patrick’s Day Parade
10. Christ Church Cathedral.

Another interesting point I was surprised to learn is that our decorations we use here for St. Patrick’s day is pretty much what they use over there. I thought was just mimicked it and made up something but no it’s pretty dead on. Wear green today y’all.

Hand in Hand Soap

1 Mar

I just found out about Hand in Hand Soap via Oh Joy. These soaps are part of a project to provide soap to people in Haiti to help reduce illnesses caused by unclean water and lack of proper hygiene. For every bar bought, Hand in Hand donates a bar. Consider it the Toms of the Soap world. According to their site, more then 5 million people die in impoverished areas due to infections caused by their living conditions. These bars are organic and Fair Trade certified. Also, for each bar sold they save 50 square feet of rainforest in Southeast Asia. Check out their website for more details and to purchase. These can also be bought at Anthropologie.

Nature in Motion: Scroll Down Fast

8 Feb

I stumbled across this gem via Oh Pioneer. I adore this blog which features some of the most stunning photos of modern woodsy wonders. I guess it’s the mountain girl in me that gets a thrill. This feature was pretty cool. Photos of a fox jumping across a snowy stream. If you scroll down pretty quick you’ll see the little rascal in motion. Then go back and enjoy the beauty of the photos.

Sure am glad he made it safely across. I bet it would be a bit chilly otherwise.

Paper Flower DIYs

7 Feb

I came across Brittany’s wedding a while back via 100layercake and absolutely fell in love with large paper flowers. My mind started turning gears on how incredibly awesome it would be to make them for my future dream wedding and then she did a DIY on how to make them. I’m telling you I’m in love. I’ve been bookmarking different DIYs as I find them and finally the other day I decided to attempt them. Pretty easy and pretty darn cute. I’m gonna keep practicing so when they time comes to set the wedding plans into motion hopefully I’ll be an expert. Here is my pretty first attempt.

This one was made using Brittany’s large scale DIY, but I made a mini version of it. She also has DIYs for using the same concept for pins and rings. Find the tutorial here.

I haven’t tried this tutorial yet but I like the different look of it. It looks like the same idea pretty much, just a different flower.

The beauty of these projects is that you can make them almost any size you very well please in any color paper you can find. The options are almost endless. Plus this to me screams unique, cost-effective decor. Who doesn’t love that?
